adding fields to a table

Working in Access2000 I have a table with 148 fields. When I try to add another field I get the error message "Property value is too large". What does this error message mean? The field is not added. I can find no reference to it in "help". How can I add more fields to this table?
 
I would start by redesigning the database..
that many fields in one table usually mean that u store redundant data in
the table
there is a limit on the max length of one record (2k if i'm not much
mistaken)
