I need help. I just got Windows Mail and I used to have outlook at my old
work. In the "To" part of the email, after you type in email address maybe 3
or 4 times they are suppose to be "completed" so you do not have to type in
the rest of it. I tried to type in all of my email address 3 or 4 times from
my address book. But in all of my new emails now, they do not complete the
email address. Tell me how to do it if you understand my question because its
a weird one. But please help!

Windows Mail auto-completes from a separate list of 29 addresses you type
in, not from your contacts. This list is stored in the registry.

To retrieve addresses from your contacts folder, click on the To: button.

This is one of the features that works properly in the newer Windows Live
Mail.

What??? What is a list of 29 addresses ? I am confused. I didn't mean just
the contacts , I mean even people that I write to a lot don't even auto
complete to it? How can I get that to work?

Also,
I got the signature stuff of course to work,

But It only shows in my "composing messages". It doesnt show when I reply
and all??? How do I set that?

It only has in the box to "dont add to my forwars" and thats not checked.

WinMail keeps a list in the registry of the last 29 addresses you entered
into the To field. Only these will auto-complete. The list will change as
you enter new addresses, but never remember more than the last 29.

Well I have windows live mial. But the point of having windows mail is to
have something for the desktop not on the internet like comcast, yahoo,
hotmail etc.

Is windows hotmail live an upgraded verison of windows mail? if so thats
weird.

Windows Mail is a desktop program.
Windows Live Mail is a desktop program.
Windows Live Hotmail is the webmail service you normally access with a web
browser. But you can access your Hotmail account using either WM (via POP3)
or WLM (POP3 or http DeltaSync).

Tools - Options - Signatures
check [x] Add signatures to all outgoing messages
uncheck [ ] Don't add signatures to Replies or Forwards

The auto-fill email addresses only works after you have manually typed in
the name in the To: field and SENT the email. You can't just go through
contacts list typing them in, removing, and typing in another. The process
of sending the email records the address you typed in to the registry
storage - the list of 29 one of the other responders mentioned earlier. The
29 is a "hard limit" that can't be changed - it's programmed. The
Signatures are controlled by settings in Tools - Options - Signatures tab.
You select which types of messages are to have the signature added -
WYSIWYG.

You are confusing Windows Live Mail with Windows Live Hotmail.
The former is a desktop email client like Windows Mail, while the
latter is a web-based email service that you access with a browser.

Dave,

so does the windows live mail cost money as the desktop program or no???????
If that doesn't cost money give me the link to download it.

Does Windows Mail have the same service I had with outlook?
There doesn't seem to be a way to post an "OUT OF OFFICE" message with
Windows Mail....
I tried 3 or 4 times but it never appears! Are there any step by step
instructions anyware ?

Any reason for hijacking this thread instead of starting your own?

You need message rules for what you want to do. This is for OE, but the
setup is identical.

If you do this, you will have to leave your computer on 24/7, be connected
to the Internet, and have OE open. If you want do this anyway, the link
below will explain how to do it. One thing I would suggest is that where
it says to create a rule and check For All Messages, you change it and
make the rule for people in your address book only. Otherwise you will be
replying to Spam as well and could end up in an endless loop of bounces.

Your ISP may offer this service which would be a better choice.

Not recommended, see Bruce's response.
Even a momentary power interruption or Windows hiccup is likely to
upset that scheme. Use your provider's vacation notification option.

Windows Mail is provided with Vista for no additional charge. Outlook must
be purchased separately and does have many more features than Windows Mail.
