When I need to add a new email address or somebody changes their email
address I can't add the new email address to an existing contact by looking
up the contact by name or I cannot copy and paste an email address to
contacts. Why can't I use basic Windows funtionality in contacts? Seems a
little strange to say the least.

I'm not sure what you mean about not being able to copy and paste an address
into an existing Contact...what version of Outlook are you using and where
are you trying to paste? Contact form? Contact List? Somewhere else?

outlook 2003. If I copy an addres from the email I receive and try to paste
it into the contact form slot for the email address the paste command is not
available. I can make it work by pasteing it into a notebook file and then
copying that and pasteing it into the contact form.

I cannot reproduce this issue in my copy of Outlook 2003 -- I regularly copy
e-mail addresses from incoming messages and paste them into existing
contacts, in the e-mail box on the Contact form.

Can you turn on the Office Clipboard (from the Edit menu) and see what the
copied text looks like after you copy an address?

Yes, it comes into the clipboard correctly. If I right click on the email
address in the contacts form the paste command is not available. If I start
the clipboard and click the email address entry there and choose paste then
it does appear in the email address form. I notice if you double click the
entry in the clipboard it will paste into the contact form or probably where
ever the cursor was last established. Is the right click to paste supposed
to work? I think I have just discovered that establishing the cursor with a
left click is critical to get the right click to work. Thank you, I am glad
to see the clipboard re-established in Office.

I don't seem to have the same issue as you do, because as long as I have the
text in the Clipboard (whether it's visible on the right or not), I can
right-click the E-mail field in the Contact form and Paste is available. To
be honest, though, I've never used the right-click method to paste -- I
always just click CTRL+V. If you've found a way to paste your addresses to
your satisfaction, I guess we can consider this issue "closed"...otherwise, I
might suggest you run a Detect and Repair on your Office installation to see
if that changes the right-click menu options.

The bottom line here is:

Lets say Jocelyn emails me from her new job and she says "this is my
new email address". I should be able to right click on her name and
have an option to UPDATE her Contact record in Outlook.

Incredibly, Outlook 2003 does not have this option. This seems to me
to be one of the most basic options one would include.

If you right click on a From: name in an email, you do have the option
to Look Up Outlook Contact. However, since that email address does
not exist, Outlook pops up with: Could not find a contact with that
email address.

We then yell out "Of course not, its a new email address. Try looking
up the person's name!"

So, it appears that we have to manually copy the email address,
manually look up our contact, go to the email address field and paste
it in.

Am I missing something, or is it still a manual process?

I too, am perplexed that the function you are describing is not available
like express.

However, the issue that John is having is different and an additional issue.
John is trying to copy and paste with-in Outlook by right clicking for both.

John is correct that you cannot "right click" for both the "paste" function
after "right click" for the "copy" function.

John should have been told of "ctrl+V" function which will also "paste"
after "right click" "copy".

Obviously, (e-mail address removed) If the "add to existing contact" function was
available in Outlook John would not have to copy and paste.

But, I digress...

I cannot add a new contact in Office Outlook 2003. When I click on Ctrl+N or
any menu to Add New Contact an error message comes up saying "The form
required to view this message cannot be displayed. Contact your
administrator". Perhaps I am overlooking an obvious step somewhere. Can
someone help? Thanks.
