Adding DOS to existing Win2000 boot disk

I normally install dos before installing Windows 2000 to a drive as I often
ghost back my system as an easy means of cleaning it up (I can stop it in
DOS mode without a floppy).

Does anyone know an easy way to add DOS after windows 2000 has been
installed (preferably without the use of a boot manager) ?

Any help appreciated

I guess you could use PartionMagic to make a small bootable partition
on the C drive, install DOS there then do a partial install of w2k to
get boot.ini, ntldr, etc installed there,then edit boot.ini as
necessary to give you a choice when you boot.

If you look at instructions for making a w2k "boot floppy" you will
see what files are necessary to boot a system.

"without a boot manager" ? If you meant without addiitional software
then this solution qualifies. If you meant switching from w2k to DOS
without a complete reboot, it's impossible.

As always backup your system before your try this,

What about booting from a bootable CD with DOS on it?

BTW, what do you mean by "add DOS"? Disk partition
with DOS on it or ability to run DOS programs, or still
something else?

One of the chinese clones of dos actually installs it on track 0 of
the drive, like an overlay is installed, and modifys the boot.ini to
allow you to select what you want to boot at boot time.

Surprisingly elegant.
