Flyboy

I'm having a dense moment.

I'm Running Outlook 2k on Windoze XP.

I'm trying to add a contact from received emails. I've done it before but I
can't seem to suss it out now. the help file says:
1.. Open the e-mail message that contains the name you want to add to your
contact list.

2.. In the From field, right-click the name you want to make into a
contact, and then click Add to Contacts on the shortcut menu.
When I try this the only right click menu I get is:

cut
copy
paste
clear
______
select all

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

It sounds to me as if you aren't opening the message.
Look at step 1 again.

Yep, definately opening it. Either by double clicking or by right click-open
which then opens it to a separate window.
I then hover over the senders name and right click but just get the basic
copy/paste menu.

Mystifying!

Cheers

Did you select the name first (click on it) and then right click?

Due to the Swen virus, all e-mails sent to this account will be deleted
w/out reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding not answer:

Sussed it!

You can only only add contact who's email address appears in the 'From'
field instead of / as well as their name. If the name only is in this field
you just get the copy options - DOH!
Anyone know a quick way of adding these 'name only' contacts, other wise
I'll just be cutting and pasting.

Cheers

One last update to this

It seems that problem exists with messages imported from Outlook Express. My
guess is that the import process breaks the link between the senders name
and their email address, so that the 'From' field becomes text only hence
the right click menu problem.

I had only just exported a large batch of messages from OE following
restoration of my Outlook installation and was working through adding them
to my contact list. I realised that when I got to the older messages (the
ones previously on Outlook), that there wasn't any longer a problem.

Not so. If you are seeing a valid resolved Display name, you can still add
it to your Contacts Folder with a R click. I suspect a corrupt entry or the
possibility that these messages were not initially received in Outlook.
