Adding comments to Adobe Reader 8?

I'm scanning and saving document as PDFs, and opening them with Adobe
8 Reader (the free version). I'd like to add comments and highlight
text in the PDFs and then save them, but the file security settings
say that Commenting is not allowed. Is this because I'm using Adobe 8
Reader, or do I have to do something to the file to enable
Commenting?

For the most part Adobe Reader is read only, you can open and read PDF files
but you generally can not change or write anything. Unless enabled by the
author of the PDF.

If you want to add comments to a PDF you must have the full Adobe Acrobat
PDF package.

There is an online version that allows you to create and write PDF files.

That's the strange part. I'm using Omnipage 15 and Scansoft PDF
Create . So doesn't that make me the author? Is there I can give
myself permission to make changes to the PDFs I create?

in Acrobat 8 pro - advanced, enable usage rights in Adobe Reader
but Omnipage may create pdf of an older vintage, without Reader
compatibility, which was introduced in Acrobat 8.

You might be able to re-create the PDF from Microsoft Word document after
adding the comments.
But Omnipage 15 only converts a scanned image to PDF

ScanSoft® PDF Create! 3 enables you to generate PDF files directly from any
Microsoft Windows (98, Me, 2000, XP) application using the Print command.
In Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, you can also use the toolbar
shortcut to create a PDF file from the current document.

The PDF files will be viewable, printable, searchable and editable (they
will be "Normal" PDF files) unless the source file came from an imaging
application or security permissions prohibit some of these functions.

ScanSoft® PDF Converter 3 lets you convert PDF files to editable documents

you open PDF files directly from these applications, edit them and save them
in the appropriate file type.


ScanSoft PDF converter is now in Version 4, for extra money.

If you do not have the cash for Acrobat 8, then a low cost idea like
Foxit Reader Pro Pack might work for you. This will allow you to add
comments/highlight text and the price is $40.

The free Foxit Reader will allow commenting, but with evaluation
marks. That way you can see if it works for you.
