I am unable to add any MPEG and AVI files to my powerpoint presentation! I tried both "insert movies and sound" as well as "insert an object". I get all different kinds of error messages or a black screen while the movie is playing. Any advise would be highly appreciated

What codecs were the MPEGs and AVIs created with? That's something to
consider, but I'd start with
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm Read the
whole thing, but pay special attention to the MCI settings in section 3.

I am having a very similar problem using video within PowerPoint XP and
using Windows XP.

I can load the MPEG into the presentation and it plays showing a black
screen. I converted the file to AVI and it plays showing a white screen.

I followed the advice and looked at the tutorial below, but found that it
generally relates to Windows 98, ME and 2000. I found that some of the files
related in the tutorial must be different in XP and am reluctant to fool
with my system.

One item I found of interest is that if I play the presentation clip on a
Win98 machine with Office 2000 it works. Using Office 2000 on the WinXP
machine - it does not work. I am wondering if there is something going on
with the Windows Media player interface in XP..Any help would be more that
gratefully accepted - I have already pulled out most of the hair I have
left.

Thank You
Terry Duncan
