Adding audio for background - please help.

I've been trying to add a song that I want to play over certain parts of my
movie but I still want to hear the dialogue and sound effects in the movie
along with the song. Every time I add the song, it silences all sound from
the movie and it's also silent. I checked all the volume levels but now I
have no sound, even though the levels are right where I left them. The only
way I can seem to get my sound back is to remove the added song. Once I undo
the add, the sound gets back to where it was. MM topics tells me I can add
audio just as background without losing the audio already in the film. Why
can't I seem to do this? Can anyone please help me?

Maybe the sound file needs to be
converted to a different format before
you import it into Movie Maker..

As an experiment...try converting the
sound file to .wmv as per the instructions
in the right pane (under comments) of
the following article. Then re-import
the .wmv file.

Ooops...wmv is a video format...
I meant to say .wma file.

a standard DVD.
