adding another hard drive

i just got a new computer and all my stuff is on my old computers hard drive,
obviously. is it possible to just plug my old harddrive into my new computer?
or will it crash because both hard drives have windows XP on them?

Jumper your old disk as a slave drive, then connect it to the
same ribbon cable as the new disk.
