Adding an Additional Domain Controller

I currently have a DC that is a Windows 2000 server. I want to make another
one of my servers a domain controller as well, so I can replicate Active
Directory onto another machine. The problem being, the server I want to
promote as the additonal domain controller is a Windows 2003 server -
actually all the other servers are 2003 servers.

What steps must I take to allow the 2003 server to partner up with the 2000
server? Can anyone point me to some step by step articles or provide me with
the steps I need. I am assuming the 2003 server will not automatically be
allowed to partner up with the older server without doing something.

What you will be doing is upgrading your domain from Win 2k to Win 2k3.

You basically need to upgrade your forest and domain to Active Directory
2003. You will be expanding your schema on your 2000 DC.

If you have exchange, be aware of the InetOrgPersonPrevent issue.

You don't necessarily need to upgrade the OS on your 2000 DC, but this will
help.

Would it be easier to just upgrade the w2k DC to 2003, or are there issue
inherent in doing that as well.

You can upgrade your existing Win 2k DC to Win 2k3 or introduce a new Win
2k3 DC into the domain, you still have to go through this:
