Did you look at Memorex's web site for a driver? Do any of the ones at
http://www.memorex.com/service_support/software_display.php?id=131&dl=p
match the one your female friend has? Did she (or you) check for
hardware *and* software compatibility BEFORE migrating to a new
operating system? My aunt had a Umax Vista S12 that worked great on
Windows 98 but they provided no driver for Windows 2000/XP and the
Windows-included drivers didn't work. So she had to get a new scanner
for the Windows 2000 host (now running Windows XP). She didn't check
for compatibility before the migration, either, but scanners can be had
for under $100 so she got another one that was supported on her
platform.
