Hello,

I recently added a router to our network of 20 - 25
computers and this router has DHCP and Dynamic routing
options. Is it good or bad to enable these options?
Currently the server handles the DHCP and DNS but im also
told that DHCP is very hard drive intensive and that it
would be good to remove the DHCP from the server. IF it
is a good idea what options can i remove with out causing
problems? DHCP DNS ??

Thanks,
Ritter

Hi Ritter,

Its generally better to avoid enabling dhcp on a router if possible as it will send out broadcasts on the network if you configure it with a dhcp helper address & ip of the dhcp server. Can overutilize your circuits as well.

Darren

I'd leave DHCP on the server, if I were you, unless your server is really
really low on resources.
