adding a legend to powerpoint presentation

You didn't identify if the legend is associated with a inset chart or whether
the legend will reference colors used that are associated with a drawing.

Creating a legned for an embedded chart
- Double click on the chart to enter chart edit mode
- Right click on the chart's background,
on the pop-up menu select chart options
- select the legend tab to create or delete a legend.

Creating a general legend
This is not an automated function. if you are using three colors, then you
will need to use at least four objects to create your legend: 1) a text box
for the descriptions, and 3 colored filled symbols (rectangles or circles or
triangles, etc.)
You will to manually align the sybols with their descriptions, and then
group the legend as a single object.

Good stuff, Tom.

And don't forget that you could always create a nonsense chart, set the data
ranges to reflect the legend names you want, let MSGraph make the chart with
legend, then ungroup the chart, delete everything BUT the legend and voila,
PPT's done the hard part for you.

Yep,
Forgot that technique.
