Adding a device by way of USB

I have been trying to download voice files from a Philips 9850 dictation unit
by way of USB connection (according to the instructions that came with the
machine), and I always get a message that says I have an unknown device and
that it must be malfunctioning (it's not). I actually have 2 of these
9850's, and I get the same message with each one. I'm wondering if I have
some sort of setting in my Windows XP that is not allowing this download to
go through.

The driver is not installed and XP doesn't know what it is.
Did a CD come with the 9850 that you can use to install
the required driver?
