Hi,

I want to add a 2nd IDE drive into my Dell Dimension 2400 but can't seem
to find a way to acquire another one of those drive cages that Dell use
to affix the drive in place.

I tried contacting them via their email support service, but they are
completely frustrating.

Can someone direct me to a site where I can purchase such parts?

Thanks,

Steve

Don't contact Dell via email. Call them on their 800 toll free number and
speak to customer service for the part. Does the case on this Dell
physically allow a second hard drive? If so the rails are attached on the
"lid" and normally snap out of the carrier. You attach them to the drive
and slide the drive into the available bay.

Thanks... My latest response from them via email is for me to call them via
their 800 #. I've been reluctant to do that but I probably will do so in
the next few days. (My new PC arrives on Monday!)

In truth, I haven't actually decided how big of a drive I want. I'm
actually building a computer-driven, networked home entertainment
environment. If I just want a PVR capability, then I'd get an internal 80GB
disk and will call them. But, I am thinking of getting either the new
Gateway or Prismiq media players. In that case, I'd probably get an
external 250GB disk.

Regards,

Steve

Keep in mind that unlike many other Dell computers with clam-shell case
design, Dimension 2400 is a mini-tower machine with a sliding side cover and
it only has a 5.25" bay available, so you will need a 3.5" to 5.25"
conversion kit for your new hard drive. These cases also lack rails that
LVTtravel mentions below. From my past experience with Dimension 2400 I also
remember that they don't support hard drives larger than 120 GB, thus if you
decide to go larger than that, you will need to either verify that the size
you chose is supported or obtain an external IDE controller that does
support large hard drives.

Thanks,
Alexei.
