I would assume an inplace upgrade would find and install the correct
HAL but don't really know firsthand. It is possible tho to go into
Device Manager, expand the + next to computer and update the driver.
Drill down picking the options to give a list of compatible drivers.
You should see your current Uniprocessor ACPI HAL listed and one of
the multiprocessor HALs that you need to install. Several reboots may
follow. The OS won't reinstall.... but it may seem that way.....
When changing HAL from ACPI to Standard PC, which some people do when
the have driver conflicts that won't share 2K's default IRQ sharing,
the system redetects everything from your onboard sound, USB, mouse,
PCI cards, RTC, chipset, Everything! You can let 2K install all it's
stock drivers or you can unzip all your desired (newer) drivers in
their own directories beforehand to point 2k at when it asks. I
recommend the latter as it's a pain to go back and try and remember
what you did and didn't load later.
As always, YMMV
Anyone know how to add a 2nd CPU to a W2K workstation with
out reloading??
Any Help?
Dave
