specifically this link.

I just re-installed quick time, and now every time I hit this link, it asks 'run active-x control' ok.
Only one option, why bother asking ?

before installing quick time this popup didn't appear. I had to work to get it to do this and still be able to preview it on my HD.
now it's screwed in preview mode and on the web.
preview mode says download a plugin, but never does get the plugin.
the movie itself is mpg. I have it defined as movie/x-mpeg.

1. before installing quick time, it auto ran on the web, and autoran in preview mode on my HD.

the obvious is remove quick time.

I want it to go back to working like 1. above. any ideas other than removing quick time ?

Try setting Windows Media Player as default. QuickCrap will probably change
it back though.

Open Windows Media Player | Tools | Options |
File Types tab | Click the Select All button |
Click Apply | Click OK

[[If you install other multimedia playback programs on your computer, they
may interfere with your Player file types settings. For more information
about setting file type ownership in other multimedia playback programs, see
the documentation that came with those programs. ]]

[[If you want to make another player the default player for a specific file
type, clear the check box for it in the File types list. ]]

[[If a selected check box is dimmed, Windows Media Player has only partial
ownership of the file type. Multiple file extensions are assigned to the
file type, but the Player only plays some of those extensions by default. To
give the Player full ownership of a file type, double-click the dimmed check
box. ]]

The semi fix was to remove all the hooks quick made when it was installed.

If it weren't for the fact that some of the best movies are made in quickformat, I'd keep it off my machine. The installer's been sitting in my temp folder for months, but HAD to install the other day. Feel the same way about real player. 2 programs that FORCE themselves on you. I'm all for competition, it's why gas prices are so ridiculous now. it's a monopoly ruled by OPEC.

Windows already killed off all the real competitors. And this is just onemore item for windows to increase their stranglehold on the web.

If real and quick just changed the way their programs act, and not try tograb every format out there, and act like virus coming back in the startups every time you remove them they might have a future, but for nowthey're just annoy ware to me.

But something has still screwed up my Golive. I even removed the quick & real plugin's. But that had no effect. quick changed something, and I have no idea what.

LOL both are POS to me and I will not have either one of them.

IrfanView can play some QT and real files if you get the right plug-ins.

IrfanView - one of the most popular viewers worldwide
[[IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for
non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003.

It is trying to be simple for beginners and powerful for professionals.]]
