Hi,

My "Add/Remove Programs" under Control panel has no installed programs
displayed. Any idea for recovering them out.
Also, the control panel is also strangely displayed and all icons were
displayed on the left frame (same position as the folder panel). and nothing
displayed in the original right frame.

Thanks.

You might have a corrupted entry in the registry. Navigate
to the location below, export this branch, then delete the first
or the first few entries.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

From the "Run" box try;
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\appwiz.cpl

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\webvw.dll
to rebuild several *.htt files

If unsuccessful try
sfc /purgecache
sfc /scannow

Or try the regedits described in;

Somehow the control panel system files seem to have become corrupted.
Put your win2k system CD into the tray, boot up from the CD drive and
run it to the point of the repair menu, then try a fast repair. If you
have an up to date ERD when prompted, use it.

I've deleted a few entries which were not familiar to me ( might be
adware/spyware ! ) and now it works again.
The control panel and add/remove programs now are visible normally.
Thank you very much!

I would like to thank Dave and Frank also for their valuable alternate
solutions. As I already solved my problem using Pegasus advice, I therefore
didn't proceed with other steps provided.

Hi,

Something gone wrong to my system again and the control panel and add/remove
programs were got corrupted/disappeared.
I tried again to delete a few entries of the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
but not successful this time. I had to use the system repair using the
Win2000 CD. After the system copied all the systems and drivers files back
to my hard disk and re-started, it went to a blue screen with error message
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and started the system dump. It repeated itself by
rebooting and ended up with the same blue screen (after the windows boot up
progression bar (at the bottom of the Windows 2000 Profession screen)
completed. P'se help!

When this happened the first time I assumed that you had
a random corruption in the registry. Now that it's happened
again, I can no longer maintain this assumption. You have
something in your machine that corrupts the registry and
perhaps also some files. If this was my machine then I would
back up all important data files, then either install Windows
over the top of the existing installation or do a new installation
onto a freshly formatted disk.

In such case, I better re-format the disk and re-install the Win2000 again.
thanks.
