add&remove items

Wanted to remove a program that was installed, but to my surprise when I
went to the add/remove icon and open there are no listed items to be
removed, nothing, no programs are displayed to be removed, there are many
programs that I have installed that are all working but I don't understand
why they don't show up in the add/remove section. Can some one advice me on
how to correct this ?

If you upgraded from Win98/Me and did not remove the incompatible software
the XP setup recommended you remove these application will sometimes show up
in Add/Remove.
You can sometimes reinstall the application and then the uninstall option
will return, but not always with an upgrade from Win95/Me to XP. This is not
a fault of the XP upgrade, but a fault of not researching the necessary
steps to take for the doing a successful upgrade.

Thanks, but this is not an upgrade to xp pro but a complete new install,
these programs were in the add/remove list before, it's just recently that I
have notice that they are not there.
I have tried the power toys but no help.
