even though UAC should pick this up (right?) I get an error saying that
I do not have the permission to add a printer

I get this error when I go to network connections/pc... (my pc's
name)/printer
then I click on the label "add a printer"

when I go to control panel and then to the printers folder I can add as
much printers as I like

this error is reproducable, could anyone else verify this scenario?

If you have decied to print something and your printer does not show in the
dialog box that appears just move the slider the the left and your printer
is probably already installed.

SoundCase was thinking very hard :

your answer is a bit beside the question
I am speaking of the adding of a printer via a way you would normally
not use

Hi,
I have reproduced this scenerio as you indicated. I beleive this is the way
it is intended to operate since it is trying to add a printer from outside on
the network.

so as a user I am not allowed to add a network printer?
bummer for all corporate networks then?
or do you think MS is going to dismiss all printer servers when vista
is released?

either way it is a bug if you ask me

First I'm not sure why the sarcasm but what if you want to install a network
printer
use the add printer option on the network screen. Going to your computer (on
that screen) and then trying to add a printer is trying to add it to you
computer from outside. Is this really what you want anyone to be able to do?

PaulB has brought this to us :

sarcasm comes and goes
it's a way to laugh with things that are not very funny to start with
not that I take this too serious
as things are going now we'll probably postpone implementation until
SP1 anyway ^^

there are still a lot of loose angles in the GUI of Vista RC2
although one would expect that if there was a label called "Add
printer..." it would actually perform an action that would lead to
adding a printer
being in a network environment and checking out the network
neigbourhood (so to call) I would think I could add a network printer
from here by clicking on that label
instead I just get an "you do not have permissions to...", not even UAC
picked this up
mind you that due to the secure environment we all have been promised I
was logged in with an administrative account
and thus the plot thickens, not even an administrator is allowed to add
a printer using this label

I can try to tone down my sarcasm but I count on you to keep an eye on
me, OK? B-)
