Old enough . .

My "Add or Remove Programs" icon has disappeared from the Control Panel.
I don't know if I accidentally removed it (I don't think so) or if it was
removed by one of the many Windows updates.

Can I get it back? If so, how?

Thanks!

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Only :
.... Click Start > Run
.... Type gpedit.msc
.... Expand "Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Add-Remove Programs" under
User Configuration.
.... Double click "Remove Add or Remove programs" and set it to "Not
Configured"

Thanks for your quick response-
Problem is, I have Windows XP Home; not Professional.

Do you have TweakUI? TweakUI can add and remove access to Control Panel
items.
----

Add or Remove Programs is appwiz.cpl. If appwiz.cpl is listed in either of
these registry keys, Add or Remove Programs will be hidden from the Control
Panel.

Hi

Have you tried a System Restore back to a point before the problem started?

Thanks to all who gave helpful suggestions.
I had tried a system restore, but I guess I could not go back far enough.

I was not aware that "appwiz.cpl" was the file which controls the Add or Remove
Programs. I did in fact have that disabled in the TweakUI.
Restoring it brought back the icon, and evereything is great now.

Again, thatnks to all who replied!

You are not the first one to do something with TweakUI and later wonder how
to fix whatever it was not remembering that you had done something with
TweakUI in the first place.

Been there, done that and got the T-shirt.

Glad you got it fixed! :-)
