something? Is this possible and how can I restore it?

Try installing xp cd,exit the info page,go to run, type:cmd In cmd
type:VERIFY ON
Then type:Sfc /Scannow When its thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,
then type:EXIT Restart computer, remove xp cd.

Hi

Try and replace it by running the following command from Start>Run:

sfc /scannow

You may need to have your XP CD to hand.

Failing that, try a System Restore back to a point before the problem
started.

I must add to my last posting that I'm not sure if the programs will still
be viewable in Add/Remove Programs when it is replaced.

I completed your last suggestion and it still doesn't work? Any more
suggestions, I don't have a system save prior to noticing that it wasn't
working?

Thanks

Hi

Is the file actually in Windows Explorer - in the windows\system32 folder?

appwiz.cpl

If not, then a fresh copy will have to be installed.

I did a search and found it in C:/WINDOWS/ServicePackFiles/i386 but not in
the one you specified?

Hi

Copy that file to the windows\system32 folder and then see if it is visible
in Control Panel.

It has always been visible in control panel, it just won't do anything when I
click on it? I will try your suggestion.

Thanks Will Denny, I copied that file to the system32 folder and it works
again and all my programs are there! Thanks for your help, I really
appreciate it. I am new to this group and it has paid off already! Have a
happy new year and thanks again,

Hi

If that file isn't in the windows\system32 folder, then it won't open.

You're very welcome. Did the installed programs appear on the Add/Remove
Programs screen or was it blank?
