Hello, I mistakenly loaded Works Suite 2000 on my new HP
with windows xp as the OS, thinking it was a stand alone
program. Turns out it was an add on to Win 98. There
was a fatal error during installation, and it never
worked right. So I went to uninstall and did get rid of
everything except the part that suffered the fatal
error. Now my uninstall won't work on that final
component. Its called Word in Works Suite Add In. I
install the proper disk (disk one) and I get a window
saying: Please wait while windows configures Word in
works suite (gathering required information) and I get a
window: Setup unable to register tasks which leads to a
window saying Add or remove programs, fatal error during
installation. Thats the end of the line. I want to
uninstall this malefic carcass and get the current
version of word and get on with my life. Anybody have
any ideas about how to get rid of this?

Chas;
I am using XP Home. I have Works Suite 2000 installed
and have no more problems with it than with anything else on
my machine.
Does your Works Suite 2000 have seven CD's?
If it does, that's the whole enchilada.

Try this:
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs |
Scroll down to: Word in Works Suite add-in | click it |
click: Click here for support information. | When the window
pops up | click the Repair button.

Thanks for the tips. Heres what I did: I went into the
control panel, found the folder of works, highlighted
all, and hit the delete button (even though they warned
me of dire consequences). Then I went back into
add/remove software and ran the remove program again,
this time successfully
