Background:

My PC has one HD (80Gig) which had XP Home upgraded to XP
Pro. I have a problem associated with WPA whereby the
activation grace period of the XP Pro expires in a week.
From the advise of some of the forum members, I,ve decided
to go clean install. I bought an identical HD and plan to
install it and install the XP Home (original copy for the
PC).

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the existing HD. Install the new HD as
primary master.
2. Install XP Home in the HDD-0.
3. Re-connect the old HD as primary slave.
4. Delete XP Pro from the slave drive.

After the above, here's where I am not sure of what's next.

Can I move programs, folders and files directly from the
old drive to the new? Or do I format slate clean the old
drive instead. I backed up the contents of the old drive
on CDs. Should I use these instead? I need to do something
soon or my existing XP Pro quit working.

Yes, however as for your applications: you will have to reinstall them
anyway to make them work in the new Windows installation. You can copy
over the old files and then reinstall on top of these files or you can
clean-reinstall the programs, that does not make much difference.
Your personal data files can be copied over, f. e. into the MY
DOCUMENTS folder for your new user profile.
When you are done you can wipe all the data on the old drive or
reformat it to use it for some other purpose.
