Trevor

I have a new Epson Stylus C84 printer that is connected
via a USB post. I'm trying to instal the printer
(driver). The add new hardware wizard is activated when I
turn the printer on, but then the machine searches and
searches for new hardware and eventually crashes. I can't
get the driver installed manually, because the same thing
happens. What do I do?

Hi Trevor,

You may want to contact Epson about this, but hopefully someone else has
had an experience similar to yours. I have an Epson printer at home that I
just installed this morning (a Stylus Photo 820). To install it, I
downloaded the latest driver from Epson's site and ran it. It decompressed
itself and then launched it's setup routine, which eventually prompted me
to connect the printer (which I did). This allowed the driver installation
to complete.

If you haven't tried it already, I would run Setup for the driver install
before connecting the printer and only connect the printer when the driver
install indicates that it should be connected. This will prevent XP from
detecting new hardware and trying to install it when it doesn't yet have
the proper drivers.
