Does this happen if you run it from The Run Command Carl?

Did you create the shares and allowed the LAN Traffic through the Firewall
to be allowed?

What happen if you re-register the dll like so:
run >> type in the txt box:
regsvr32 netplwiz.dll
Reboot your machine and see if it will be solved.
Run the system file checker on your machine.
Can this machine see the other machines on the Workgroup and vice versa with
the other machine?

Hi nass, thanks for the response. i'm not very good with this sort of stuff
but i tried to re-register the dll as you suggested but has made no
difference. don't currently have a firewall running. how do i run the system
file checker and what should i be looking for? any further help would be
appreciated thanks.

Run a thorough scan for malware and viruses then try this:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and pay attention to it, as it may ask for the
Windows isnstallation media to be inserted.
