I'm trying to open some different ms-help pages in IE and it uses ActiveX.
Is there some way to add pages such as ms-help://* to my list of trusted
sites. It doesn't like it when I try and add it. I think it doesn't
recognize it since these web pages are local and don't have a .com, .net,
etc.

That doesn't appear to work. Here's a sample link that I'm using.

ms-help://MS.VSCC.2003/MS.MSDNQTR.2004APR.1033/cpguide/html/cpcondesign-timeforwindowsforms.htm

Why do you need to do this? E.g. I can launch that page in an IE window
by starting with it from the MSDN Document Explorer and then pressing
Ctrl-N. When I do that the IE window's security zone is My Computer.

Surprisingly (?) I also don't have a problem using that link when my
original security level is High. E.g. I have About:Blank in the
Restricted sites zone and it is my Home page. I found I was able
to open the link from there, then noticed that the default security level
of the Restricted sites zone is High, so as a test I changed the level
of my Internet zone to High too and found that then it also can link to the
MSDN document pages without any intervention. Once I made that
change the other surprising thing that happened was that now I could
also use the link *from* My Computer zone. (For some reason that I
haven't worked out yet links *from* My Computer zone *to* My Computer
zone are restricted. ;o)

The next thing that I would try is creating a new zone called MSHelp
for files which have a pattern of ms-help://* However, it appears that
such a pattern may not be supported (e.g. judging by an attempt to add
it to the Trusted sites zone, a Low security level zone, when the error
message implicitly informed me that that pattern is considered invalid.)
Why? Who knows? My guess is, only for implementational simplicity. ;(
