Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to permanently remove any
installed add-ins from the Add-In Manager in Outlook 2000 SR1 .

I am trying to install a bespoke add in application, and ever time I
un-tick the old trial version and go ahead with the installation, I find it
has been re-ticked causing conflictions.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

(Running Windows 2000 pro)

If it shows up in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel you can uninstall
it and it shouldn't show up any more. Other than that you'd have to remove
it from the registry. Is this an Exchange style extension addin or a COM
addin?

I have the opposite problem - my addin is loaded & works fine, but does not
show up in the list of installed add-ins. Do you know how to fix this?

Show up in the COM Add-Ins dialog or the Add/Remove Programs applet in the
Control Panel? If it's not in the Control Panel then uninstalling it would
be painful and require knowledge of everything it installs and where and
deleting those items, cleaning the registry of any entries created and
unregistering any DLL's or OCX's that were registered before deleting those
files. No properly written addin should ever install itself without a means
of uninstalling it.

If you mean the addin is there but doesn't show up in the COM addins dialog
it was installed using an administrative installation. User installations
are per Windows logon and are located in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\AddinName.Connect. Those show
up in the COM Add-Ins dialog and may be disabled by the user.

Admin installations are installed in the HKLM hive of the registry using the
same path as the path in HKCU but aren't there in COM Add-Ins so they can't
be disabled there. Those installations work for all users on a computer.

An addin should never be installed in both HKCU and HKLM at the same time.

Hello Ken

May I apologise for the delay in replying I have only just returned to

work after a weeks hols.

The add is is an attachment manager it was designed specifically for us

after we tried out the freeware product. It's the freebie I am having

problems removing from the add-in dialogue box.

And this attachment manager doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs? Does it
have an uninstaller program? If you are in touch with this freebie's author
ask him how to uninstall it. It most likely has a number of registry
settings that probably should be removed.

If it's just a question of not showing the freebie in the Add-In Manager
dialog then use Windows Explorer to search for *.ecf files. There should be
one for your application and deleting that file should prevent it from
showing up in that dialog. Make sure to show hidden and system folders to
make sure you can find the file.
