I decided that I wanted to beef up my boring yellow folders by adding an
image from that folder. I am running XP Pro so I right click on the folder
and go to properties- customize- choose picture and there it is displayed in
preview. Howver when I apply and Ok it it does happen on my desktop.

Anyone know why/

TIA

Geoff

Geoff;
Picture only shows up in a folder with Thumbnail or Filmstrip View.
i.e. If you have folders in My Pictures. Won't show on the folders on
the Desktop.

Try this:
Right click a folder | Properties | Customize tab | Change Icon button |
Scroll through the available icons | pick one | High light it | OK | Apply | OK

You can do a search on your machine for Icons and copy them to a folder.

Search for *.ico

You can find Icons for download here:
http://www.jeffs-icons.com/

And
http://www.it-mate.co.uk/icons/
(I'm trying to help, Steven!)

You can also do a search on the web for Icons.

**Hint** I just made this mistake ten minutes ago.
I had all my folders how I wanted them. Then I decided to
customize a couple in Favorites. I was getting tired of opening
57 folders to get to my Icons folder, so I moved it.
Guess what? I now have to customize all over again because the
path to my Icons folder changed. Son of a gun! I knew right away
what had happened. Didn't create any less work though. :-(
Moral of the story, put Icons folder in My Documents and leave
it there.

I hate learning stuff the hard way.

Wes,

| I was getting tired of opening 57 folders to get to my Icons folder...

Why not create a shortcut to your Icons folder?

Hi Jan;
Thanks for the pep talk.

Right click a folder | Properties | Customize tab | Change Icon | Browse |
My Documents | Icons | Open
I don't see how that would help.
Besides, I already moved my Icons folder.
I already have most of the folders fixed back up. Even better,
I found some new icons. :o)

Thanks but its a Jpg image from within the file that want on the outside...
not an icon. Guess I'm asking for the impossible

Geoff

Geoff,

Open the .JPG in MsPaint.

Save the file, but in the File "Save As" dialog box,
in the "Save as type:" text box, click the drop-down-arrow button,
and choose [ 24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib) ].

The new file is a .BMP Try that.

You can also rename the .BMP to .ICO and use that file.ICO as the icon for any shortcut to the folder in question.
