Got an 80 Gig HD in my Athlon XP 2600+ machine. I would
like to add a second HD. Do I format the new HD first
after Bios detects it? Can I load my XP on it also? Second
question: How do I arrange my Program Files so they appear
in alphabetical order?

Thanks

1. You can simply add the new HDD and leave the old one as it is.
2. If you want to transfer Windows to the new HDD, see "How to Move a
Windows XP Installation to Different Hardware"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314070). You can then reformat the
old drive and use it for other purposes.
3. What does you last question mean exactly?

Thanks for the advise. To elaborate on my second question -

When you click on start/Programs, you get a whole list of
programs, over fifty of them in my case. I was just
wondering if there is a way whereby these programs will
appear in an alphabetical order such as A as Accessories
first and W as in Windows, etc. This should enable me to
find a program much easier.

New HD:
I've added 4-5 new HD's over the last few years, all Maxtors. They come
with software to assist smooth installation. HD's must be partitioned
and formatted before use. Read instructions carefully, and search
install CD for readme, or any readable files to help installation. I
have also had good luck moving everything from old HD to new using Max
Blast. I strongly suggest adapting Carpenter's rule: "measure twice,
cut once." That is: "Read instructions twice, install once." All new
HD's come with install software, I am only familiar with Maxtor.

Sort:
Start>All Programs, right click any folder or file, click Sort by name.

To add a hard dive. Simply set the jumper to slave, plug it into the
spare connector on the drive cable. Boot the computer. Assuming that BIOS
sees the drive. Gp into Windows, then Start>Adminstrative Tools>Computer
Management, then Disk Management. Format the drive and partition it as
desired.

You don't need to load XP on the new drive.

To alphabetize your start menu. Simply Right-click on it and select
Sort by Name.

Programmers write "Help Files" for a reason. use them.

"Due to Viewer dicretion...
Graphic violence is advised"

Right-click the menu > "Sort by name". If using the new XP-style menu
you will see two alphabetized blocks now in the upmost menu level.
This is because this menu level consists of the START MENU folders in
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS and C:\DOCUMENTS AND
SETTINGS\{username}. These two menus will not merge even with the
sorting command.
