Add Hardware (using icon in control panel)

Recently had new harddrive installed. Now find that any
new hardware is not automatically recognized and has to
be installed manually.clicking on the above icon results
in the message "cannot run two device
installations.........another installation is under way" .

Sounds like an installation has not completed.
Remove any recently installed devices in Device manager,
also remove any devices that show a question mark,
close down and remove the devices physically.
Restart, watching for any install messages.
Shutdown and install devices one at a time ensuring that
installation completes for each one.
USB devices normally require software installation before the hardware
goes in.
