Add Harddrives, Now Fail to Post

I've build my first computer and before adding the hard drives was
pleased to see the mobo post. I modified a few settings, added fan
control and a few other things and the system continue to POST without
problems.

Today I added and formatted 2 hard drives - 1 SATA and 1 PATA. I
haven't installed an operating system yet but used a Linux rescue disk
to partition and format the two drives.

When I rebooted, I planned on entering setup to make sure the computer
booted the SATA drive first (well, after CD). To my dismay, I can't
enter setup during boot (F2, F! or any other keys don't seem to
register). All I can get is a blinking cursor and eventually a "Disk
boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". I disconnected the
PATA and SATA ribbons to see if I could get into setup on reboot but
that didn't help either.

Now I can't get the CD to boot either - all I get is the disk boot
failure message. Suggestions?

Thanks.

Okay, I disconnected the power cords as well and the ASUS flash screen
appeared for about 1/4 second. I was able to see that to enter setup I
should press the delete key. So I think I've resolved at least the
first issue. Hopefully I will now be able to restore the ability to
boot from CD.

Note: I'd like to have just edited my original post but don't see a
way to do that on this forum...

You failed when you attempted to get by with using a "Linux rescue disk" to
format and partition your SATA harddrive. It ain't that simple. When
installing XP SP2 from the CD the software allows you to format and
partition your SATA harddrive AFTER the OS installs the REQUIRED SATA
drivers. Your Linux rescue disk had no required SATA drivers. And they are
specific to the OS used.
