Hi Tim,
Several options, different areas of the Start Menu though. Line 2 and 52
(right hand side):

You can also add a folder to the right click of the Start Button.
Line 124 (right hand side):

Use as an example:
Right click the Start Button/Properties/Customize/Advanced. Scroll down
to My Documents and choose List as a Menu.
Then go to Windows Explorer\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\My
Documents. Highlight My Documents, then choose File/New/Folder. Name it
and move any contents there that you want. It will then be added to the
Start Menu My Documents and cascading.
Another option if you don't use My Documents and want to point it to
another folder: Right click the Desktop My Documents icon, go to
Properties and change the Target path. That will become your Start Menu
My Documents cascading folder.
The same can be done with the My Pictures folder.

Using the XP standard start menu (not Classic), is there any way to add a
folder (or a shortcut to a folder) to the 'pinned' item list (top left
quarter of start menu where typically browser and email shortcuts are)
and have it be an expanding folder where the contents list as sub-menu
items when you pause the mouse over it?
I'm not scared of registry hacks...
