I have the new XP, and I can't figure out how to add ONLY
an icon for the desktop to my task bar. I can add the
desktop icon and everything else on my desktop, but I
can't add ONLY the desktop icon.

As it is, I have to minimize the program I'm using in
order to access the desktop. It's like Windows 95 all
over again! :>) Surely there's a way to add the desktop
icon to the task bar?

Restore Missing Show Desktop Icon to Quick Launch

If the Show Desktop icon is deleted from Quick Launch,
the procedure below
will recreate the file.

Open Notepad and enter the following text:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop
the icon on the
Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the
shortcut to appear.

Alternately, search for the file named showdesktop.scf in
your computer by
logging in as administrator. Every user has a copy of
this file. Copy it to
your userprofile path here:

c:\Documents and Settings\<<YOUR USER NAME>>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
