It seems that Word itself does not support to create barcode, you need to install a third party font in Word to generate barcodes.

There are barcode fonts out there you can use, at your own risk of course, that may provide a suitable solution. One I've seen that seems reliable enough is at http://www.barcodesinc.com/free-barcode-font/.

I tried to download one, but I could not show the barcode text. I tried several times but it still not work.

Some font may not support the display of human readable characters. You can use this Code 39 add-in(http://). It is able to enable or disable the text encoded in Code 39
