Hello:

I am running Windows 2000 Pro. Recently I have not been
able to access Add and Remove Programs. I think there is
a virus or something on the computer. I can't access the
Internet, I can't print, I can't copy files or burn CDs. I
can't load the Anti-virus software.

Has anyone seen this and how did you fix it. I am using
my laptop to access the Internet. I don't have sufficient
storage to download and extensive program to run on the
computer with the problem.

Thanks for your help.

First thing is you need to do a virus scan. Try booting into safe mode [tap
F8 repeatedly while booting to bring up menu] and try to install your virus
scan program from there. Also see link to Karl's FAQ that lists some sites
that may be able to scan your computer from the internet and what to do from
there. My guess is that a reinstall will be needed. Try to back up any
needed data now to floppies, etc while you can. If you have data very
important to you, you may need to put the hard drive in another computer
[that has virus protection and running W2K/XP] and copy the files to a
different hard drive. There are adapters that allow a laptop harddrive to be
installed in a desktop to do such. -- Steve
