Does anyone know how to add a new shortcut in the window
that opens whenever you open a file from within a program.
For instance, in Word if you go to file > open in the
window that opens there are shortcuts on the left hand
side for My Documents, Desktop, Favorites, etc. How do you
add one of your own?
Thanks,
Bob C.

I *just* posted this exact same question above.

See the thread "customing the (useless) common open dialog"

There is a difference though. The file>open dialog box in Office apps
*can* be modified (I forget how. There is a VBA for it somewhere out
there) but I do not believe the "common" open dialog box (ie for non-
office apps) can be modified. Indeed, there is no "common" such box as
you may notice that different apps will list different subsets of the
locations.

HTH.

Well, here's a link I just found for a registry hack.
http://www.poremsky.com/places_bar.htm

And for non-office:

However, I do recall a VBA for adding locations, just can't seem to find
it in Google. Maybe the site is gone.

Thx for the links -- following one of your links leads to this, which
shows the registry values to change.

I posted my solution in my thread (TweakUI which is an nicer solution
to raw registry hacking.)

Cheers
Didn't know tweakui did this (even though I have tweakui). Still, if you
check the registry, all tweakui does is create the same registry entries.
Though it is much easier.
