Hi

I have aproblem with a network printer. I have a small
home network with one computer having two printers
connected. All the computers are running Windows 2000. I
have shared the printers and have no problem printing from
the other computers, so long as I am longed onto the other
computers as Administrator. If I log onto one of the other
computers as some other user (a user with Administrator
privileges) I cannot print - unless I first make a network
connection.

I have added on the printer computer all the users that I
am using on the other computers and granted these users on
the printer computer administrator privileges.

Any idea as to why this is happening?

Thanks in advance

Peter

1. the password for the user accounts must be the same on the client and
print server computer. To be able to do anything on another computer (e.g.
open a shared folder, print on a shared printer), the user has to be
"authenticated" on the other (server) computer. If there has not been a
prior authentication, the print spooler will send the username and password
of the logged on user to the print server computer automatically, but if
that username is not known or the wrong password is used, authentication
will fail and the print won't work. When you connect to a folder share on
another computer and the username or password is incorrect, Windows on the
client computer will prompt for a known username and password, but this does
not happen when you try to print. Between any two computers, once
authentication has succeeded, Windows will always use the same set of
credentials for any other interaction. So, if you successfully connect to a
shared folder, you can then print, even if the username and password that
the user logged on at the client computer with does not match any on the
server computer. So, when you "first make a network connection", do you get
prompted for a username and password? If so, then the username and password
that is logged on at the client computer is not the same as any on the
server computer.

2. print client users do not have to be administrators on the print server
computer, but they do need to be members of a group that has Print
permission for the shared printer on the print server computer.

3. "cannot print" is pretty vague - what symptom do you get?

4. make sure that the special group "CREATOR OWNER" has the Manage Documents
permission for the shared printer on the print server computer
