No you are not limited to two HDs. Do you have the jumper set correctly?
Have you partitioned and formatted the new drive?

No, but no version of Windows can 'see' an unformatted and unpartitioned
drive.

Right click on My Computer select Manage. On the following screen, select
Disk Management. Provided the drive is correctly identified in the BIOS, it
will now appear on the right hand side of the screen, from where you can
paritition it, format it and assign it a drive letter.

there a limitation of two HD?

Post back and tell us exactly how you have the drives connected. Two on one
IDE controller as master and slave, jumpered correctly? The third on the
other IDE controller? Anything else on that controller, such as a CD drive?
How are they jumpered?

Only 2 drives (one master/one slave) per IDE cable is allowed.

Some master drives have a jumper setting which tells the drive that there is
a slave drive on the same cable.
