I use Ad-Aware. It defaults to smart system scan or I can choose full scan.

I just do the default, but I'm wondering what the difference is and which
one I should really do.

ALSO, every time I run AdAware (and Spybot) I seem to find 50-60 such items.
I eliminate them all, but a few weeks later, when I run the program again, I
once again have 50-60 items. What is creating this? Is there any way to
eliminate them permanently?

Hi Mel.....

I alternate, but usually do the Smart one. Have you downloaded
SpywareBlaster? It stops them from landing on your computer. It is free
and small and works!! I rarely get them anymore.

I have used it for a long time.

There are some other programs you may want to check out.
I have them listed on my site.

Are these 50-60 items what AdAware refers to as "tracking cookies?" Are
you using Internet Explorer? If so, adding the source sites of the
cookies to your Restricted Sites zone will vastly reduce their
reappearance.

IE-SPYAD (freeware) quickly and easily adds a boatload of shady sites and
domains to your Restricted Sites zone automatically:
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm Since using it several
months ago, my AdAware scans rarely find more than a couple of "tracking
cookies" on my system, and often find none at all.

"... the web sites for these companies will not be able to use cookies,
ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or
your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser
to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on your
PC."

Regards,
Ian.

...or are they the MRU items? Others have questioned these as they
don't understand that MRU is the "Most Recently Used" file list by
your applications and should be ignored, unless more than one person
uses the computer and you want to hide what you've been doing.
