Hi,
Just got on the AD bandwagon. I can't seem to figure out
how to manage AD from W2K workstation. There must be some
easy way to install all the AD tools on it. Can anyone
point me in the right direction?

TIA

Dom

You can put the Win2k server disc in the wkstn, browse
it. One of the options is "Administrative Tools"...
install it.

this only works for XP and 2003 servers. But thanks.

Dom,

Not necessarily. I will admit that I have not looked at
the link. I entered it and it takes me to a download.

Generally speaking, the ADMINPAK would indeed be the way
to adminster a WIN2000 Server from a WIN2000 Pro
workstation. The actual file name is ADMINPAK.MSI. I
find that it is useful to create an OU and apply a GPO to
that OU to the User Configuration so that when I, as
Domain and Enterprise Admin, log on to any machine (
well, all things being equal ) I get the Admin Tools.
naturally, that OU would have to be populated with the
appropriate user account object and I would need to be
very aware of where I use that user account.

There is also a way to use the ADMINPAK on a WINXP
machine ( IIRC ). It is a little bit more involved. I
have yet to have a need to do this!

HTH,

Cary
