We recently upgraded to a redundant, centralized, NAS. The nas is powered by
a linux variant but has been integrated into our Active Directory (W2K)
domain.
Everything was fine until...
We decided to move our install directory from a W2K member server to the
NAS. This directory contains the MSI(s) and supporting files necessary for
deployment. THese packages are known good but failed to deploy from the NAS
hosted share.
Upon wire tapping with ETHEREAL, we found that prior to installing software
with a machine policy, each W2K client attempts to connect to the IPC$ share
of the host server. Being that the NAS has no IPC$ share it would fail to
allow the connection, and the install policy would fail.
I created a dummy IPC$ share on the NAS which is hooked into a blank folder.
This also failed.
Does anyone know how, or if, you can push software through Active Directory
at the Machine level without an IPC$ share?
