Hi
I'm working on DRP procedure. As a part of this procedure
I need to restore Active Directory and then join some
computers to restored domain. To restore AD I've planned
to configure additional controller (simple replicate AD).
Then I've reconnect it to separate network segment and
seize all FSMO roles. But I still cannot join computers to
domain. I get an error "Domain doesn't exist ...". I've
also made a copy of DNS.
I would be greatfull for any help

Marcin,

What are the steps that you have taken again?

It looks like you have added an additional DC to your
production environment? Is this correct? This is also
very, very important to establish. Everything that I am
asking below is based on the assumption that you are doing
all of this in yout production environment.

I am not following you on the 'reconnect it to a separate
network segment' part. To what segment? Is it still part
of the prodcution environment?

So, you seized all five FSMO Roles from whatever DC(s)
held them to this 'additional' DC. How did you do that?
I assume with NTDSUtil. And what is with the DC(s) that
held the five FSMO Roles originally? Is it / Are they
still 'live'? This could be contributing to your
problem. When you seize an FSMO Role from one DC to
another the DC that held it should no longer be in the
environment. Your AD will have very interesting going-ons!

Have you installed the Support Tools on all of your DCs?
The Support Tools are located in two places: on the
WIN2000 Server CD in the Support | Tools folder and on the
WIN2000 Service Pack CD in the Support | Tools folder.

Run netdiag /v and dcdiag /v. You may want to redirect
the output to a log file by entering dcdiag /v
c:\dcdiag.log ( or whatever you want to call the file ).

Let us know the results.

HTH,

Cary
