Dear Sir,

Could you please advice on how to recover a child domian controller in a
forest from a very old backup. AD tombstone life in the forest is the default.

Thanks & Best Regards
Chandimal

although possible, that is very tricky because of the possible introduction
of lingering objects
Basically the steps are (assuming W2K3):
* Restore the child domain DC (assuming it is the only DC in that domain,
otherwise do not continue!). When restoring, restore the SYSVOL replica set
as authoritative
* Check lingering objects on BOTH sides
--> REPADMIN /REMOVELINGERINGOBJECTS <FQDN DC with lingering objects> <GUID
healthy DC> <NC>
perform the above command on both sides and for ALL NCs (writable and
read-only)!!!
* Enable loose replication on both DCs
* Force replication between DCs
* Enable strict replication again on both DCs
