Hi there, I recently received approval to register our DNS. One problem
though, the name we were going to use was registered by a domain hog and
they are trying to resell it for an unbelievable price. So we had to
register a new name. I will now be required to change our AD name so our
email will work properly. Any suggestions on how to do this. We have a
single server which is also our exchange frontend. I know that will have to
return the server to standalone mode then rebuild the domain. I will run
dcpromo to return it to a standalone then clean it up a bit and run dcpromo
again. Any suggestion on backing up things like our group policy settings so
I can easily import them into the new domain? Also, will I have to uninstall
Exchange 2000 before demoting or can I leave it installed and it be smart
enough to shutdown while the system is not a DC? Thanks for all your help -
Marc

You can't just change your AD name - you'll blow up Exchange, for one thing.
However, you don't need to do it anyway. All you need to do is update your
Exchange recipient policy with the appropriate domain name, and make sure
all mailboxes are stamped with the correct e-mail address.

See http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF002.html - some or all of this
info may be old hat to you.
