I receive multiple messages daily from annonymous
sources that pop up over whatever I'm doing. As I do
online gaming, this can be a bit frustrating. Due to the
nature of the games that I play I have to keep a wide
range of ports open on my router to avoid connection
problems so I haven't been able to block these from coming
through. This is what they say they do on their website:

- AD-PRO Extreme uses built-in Microsoft technology to
deliver your message directly to desktops running Windows
2000, XP, or NT 4.0 without the need of a web browser

- AD-PRO Extreme can be used to communicate with customers
or potential customers in real-time. E-mail can take days
to be delivered and received

- AD-PRO Extreme comes built in with a large database of
built-in IP ranges that you may send your communication to-
- covering 90% of the global Internet - literally MILLIONS
of users, without the need for ANY email addresses. Each
successful broadcast sent indicates that your message
appeared on your recipients screen. That's equivalent to a
banner ad click-through!

- Your message pops up ON TOP of other applications,
meaning your ad WILL BE SEEN! Click here to see an example
of what the recipient will see.

- Delivery is QUICK - depending on the bandwidth of your
Internet connection, easily broadcast 150,000 messages per
HOUR! (up to 600,000 messages per HOUR on a T2 or faster
line).

ONLY AD-PRO Extreme has the following benefits:

- Runs on Windows 98/ME/NT4.0/2000/XP

- AD-PRO Extreme has a SPECIAL delivery method which
bypasses filtering done by ISPs (e.g. AOL) and ensure your
messages get delivered. Our messages make it there,
competitor's products DON'T

- AD-PRO Extreme lets you use SOCKS5 proxy servers to
broadcast your message. So even if your marketing efforts
cause complaints, the broadcasts can essentially be from
anonymous sources - your Internet connection will be safe!
NO OTHER Windows Messaging Product supports this!

All this at the lowest cost of any broadcast advertising
product! Just download the demo version today and take it
for a test drive! Once you see the power and ease of AD-
PRO Extreme , you will instantly make it a main part of
your advertising arsenal!

Any ideas on how to block this from coming through?

Thanks,

Derek

Derek;
These ads are using Messenger Service.
Messenger Service is a valuable tool many use.
Like many tools, it can be exploited.

No need to pay for the fix.
For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330904
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp
Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve
the real problem.
The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom.
The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.
Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports.
The firewall controls the traffic.

Internet Connection Firewall will not work if you have AOL.
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF)
If you have AOL, you should contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party
firewall.

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts
