In order to do testing on home computer with Windows 2000 Server I'm
trying to install AD. PC is standalone computer so it does not have any
permanent network connection albeit it has NIC.

While I'm trying to install AD with dcpromo.exe I have at the
end of installation process the same error message:

"The network location cannot be reached".

Does it mean that installing AD require at least one workstation attached to
server? Hopefully I don't need to buy additional PC to test AD! Appreciate your
help...

Yes, the NIC has to have a connection. You can use UTP terminator for this,
or connect the NIC to a Hub or some network device.

Hi,

You can also install a Microsoft Loopback Adapter.

Control Panel , Add/Remove Hardware, Add New Device, Select From List,
Network Adapters.

Choose Microsoft as the manufacturer, and Microsoft Loopback Adapter as the
Network Card.

Run Dcpromo again.
