Well, I think I'm finally ready to alter my domains functional level. It's
currently running in Windows 2000 AD Mixed mode. (A single domain
environment)

All DC's are now Windows Server 2003. I still have a few Windows 2000 member
servers and an old clunky WinNT member server (print server) at a remote
site. All desktops are Windows 2000 or Windows XP and AFAIK we don't have any
applications that can't run in a pure AD environment.

From what I have read, it should be ok to raise the functional level to
Windows 2003 now. Does that sound correct? Does anyone have any advice as to
any pitfalls to watch out for?

Thanks
Andy.

Yes. AD Domain-modes and Forest functional levels are
strictly about the DCs and the capabilities of the database
itself.

When you change the mode or functional level you are
PROMISING never to install a down-level Domain
Controller that doesn't meet the requirements of the new
mode.

If you will never install an NT box as DC you can
go to either Native or Win2003 Server mode. You can
only go to the latter, Win2003 Server mode, if you also
are never going to promote a Win2000 to DC.

Modes and levels are about Domain Controllers and do
not affect the clients or member servers directly.

Thanks Andrew and Herb, for confirming what I thought to be the case.
I'll raise the functional level on Monday and if it breaks anything I'll hunt
you both down like dogs ;-).
