Ok a while ago we imported a few thousand Contacts into our AD so as to
create distribution list for general use.
Now the boss would like to increase the use of this data by our Outlook
Clients. So how does one get Outlook to use it? All we get are the Address
lists I setup on the Exchange server to enter their addresses into a
message. How do we get Outlook to search this data, journal and track etc.,
etc., all those neat things that the boss is learning to do with his
Outlook?
And no way I can find to tell Outlook to use this data as an address book.
Or am I going about this in the wrong way?

Thanks for your time.

They are Mail Enabled and showing in the GAL. We can add their addresses to
email message and create various lists within the GAL. That is not the
question.
How does one get Outlook to search the GAL? To use it (or part of it) as an
Outlook Address Book? So that one can have the functions that are offered
with the Contacts kept within the Outlook profile?

In Outlook I can search the Outlook Addess Books using an number of Options
such as Address or Company. You can also set Journaling options to track
your messages and documents for Contacts in your Outlook Address Book. We
would like to be able to use the same search and journal functions with the
2 thousand plus names already in the GAL.
