Google toolbar includes a good popup blocker. NoPops is a third party
utility that blocks popups. Both are free.

I've had good luck with ToolbarX. It's free, does multiple web sites
searches, and blocks both popups and annoying animations. Their web
site is www.toolbarx.com.
